Pacuare River Rafting, Osa Peninsula (Drake Bay), Caño Island, Corcovado National Park
This Romantic Couple’s Honeymoon Adventure takes you and your loved one to two incredibly diverse and beautiful areas of Costa Rica where, together you will experience the thrill of adventure and the peace of pristine nature.

Your honeymoon adventure will begin in the secluded river lodge of the famous Pacuare River. There, between days of rafting down the river, hiking to hidden waterfalls, and eating delicious fine food; you will relax in hammocks and take in the jungle sounds all around. From the Pacuare, you will be transferred via plane to the remote Osa Peninsula’s Drake Bay where you and your loved one will snorkel in the biological reserve of Caño Island and take a guided tour through the immense and untouched Corcovado National Park.
This trip is especially good for couples that have visited Costa Rica or Central America in the past and want to experience a more unique, biologically diverse, and authentic side of this country. Due to the remote nature and underdevelopment of each location, this trip tends to be best matched with seasoned travelers that don’t need all of the creature comforts that standard vacations might include.

Typical 9-day Remote Couple’s Romantic Adventure Itinerary
Day #1: Arrival – Night in a boutique property on the flanks of the Turrialba Volcano
As soon as you arrive to the San Jose Airport (SJO), an air-conditioned & modern private vehicle will meet you and your companion to take you east into the mountainous terrain and river carved Turrialba Valley. You will travel through picturesque tree-shaded coffee farms, sugar cane plantations, and past the small mountainside towns that give this area the nickname, “Switzerland of Central America.” Once in Turrialba, you and your spouse will stay in a gorgeous B&B on the east side of town (perfect for watching the sunset over the Turrialba Volcano in the west).
Day #2: Overnight white-water rafting trip
On today’s adventure you and your spouse will raft the thrilling white-water of the pristine Pacuare River. Your professional rafting guides are all world-class and many compete in international rafting tournaments! They will guide you and your spouse safely down the river to the remote jungle lodge, which is equipped with running water, flushing toilets, showers, a full kitchen, hammocks and a million star views. All of the rooms are modern, very clean and fully equipped. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Wait until you try the delicious food! Once you are at the lodge, you can rest and relax or, if your family wants more adventure, guides are available for trips to hidden waterfalls and zip-line canopies in the middle of the rainforest!

Day #3: Overnight white-water rafting trip
Considered one of the top five adventure rivers in the world, the Pacuare River will certainly live up to its reputation today. This biological and indigenous reserve is home to some of the most scenic river scenes your family will ever lay eyes upon! Waterfalls will literally tumble into the river and even into the raft as you prepare to enter the beautiful canyon known as Dos Montañas (Two Mountains). Also on day two of the whitewater rafting adventure itinerary, your family will encounter the class III & IV rapids that adventurers all over the world travel to raft down! At the conclusion of the river trip, the driver will meet you with all of your luggage and transport you to your hotel located near the airport in preparation for tomorrow. You and your companion will stay in the coffee-growing region of the Central Highlands on the flanks of Volcan Poas in a lovely boutique B&B to rest and relax.

Day #4: Flight to Drake Bay – Afternoon at Leisure
After breakfast-with-a-view, you will travel back to the airport for an in-country flight to the remote Osa Peninsula. National Geographic has labeled this part of the country as “…one of the most biologically intense places on earth.” You will land on a tiny airstrip on the beach and promptly board a 4×4 that will take you across a river over the hills to your cliff-side eco-lodge that exists in harmony with the surrounding jungle and beaches. After lunch, you and your companion can take the rest of the afternoon to relax and explore the beach and jungle. All meals are included in your stay at Drake Bay.
Day #5: Corcovado Guided Hike
Today you and your spouse will have the opportunity to visit one of the greatest national parks in all of Central America. After breakfast this morning, you two will board a boat and take a quick 25-minute ride south into Corcovado National Park where you will be joined by your guide for a hike of this magical place. The largest of Costa Rica’s protected areas, Parque Nacional Corcovado is made up of 103,290 acres of tropical rainforest, encompassing about a third of the Osa Peninsula and embracing an unbelievable amount of the country’s biodiversity. It has a very diverse population of flora and fauna, including 10% of the mammals found in the Americas. Scarlet Macaws, anteaters, tapiers, and 3 species of monkeys are often sighted here.
Day #6: Isla del Caño Snorkel Tour
After breakfast this morning, you and your spouse will board a boat and journey to the remote island of Isla del Caño, 14 miles off of Drake Bay. This island is a biological reserve consisting of approximately 500 acres surrounded by protected waters swarming with tropical marine life. The island itself contains several artifacts that date back to pre-Colombian times. The snorkeling here will not disappoint! The schools of fish and other marine life tend to be much larger than can be spotted in the Caribbean, and it is not rare to see whales, turtles and various shark species here. After your half-day adventure, the boat will return you two to the lodge to watch the sunset together and share stories.
Day #7: Free Day in Drake’s Bay
A trip to this area of the country is not complete without a day to get out and explore the hidden beaches and hike the jungle trails. Now that you have your bearings, you’ll feel very comfortable getting out on your own to look for wildlife and play in the ocean. If you desire to coordinate an activity, we can set up horseback riding, zip-lining or another trip to Corcovado National Park, too. Enjoy your final full day in this paradise!

Day #8: Transfer to Central Valley
This morning after breakfast, you’ll say adios to the Osa Peninsula. Your flight back to the Central Valley leaves in the afternoon.
