Spend your days rafting down the river, hiking to hidden waterfalls, and eating delicious local food. In those in-between moments, you and your loved one can relax in hammocks and take in the sounds of the jungle. From the Pacuare, you take a regional flight to Drake Bay on the remote Osa Peninsula, where you will snorkel in the biological reserve of Caño Island and take a guided tour through the untouched wilderness of Corcovado National Park.
This trip is an excellent fit for avid travelers or couples who have visited the region before and want to experience a unique, biologically diverse, and authentic side of this country. Due to the remote nature of each location, this trip tends to be best matched with seasoned travelers who don’t need all of the creature comforts that standard vacations might include.

Typical 9-day Remote Couple’s Romantic Adventure Itinerary
Day #1: Arrival – Night in a boutique property on the flanks of the Turrialba Volcano
Arrive at the San Jose Airport (SJO) and meet your driver for transfer east into the mountainous terrain and river-carved Turrialba Valley. You will travel through picturesque tree-shaded coffee farms and sugar cane plantations and past the small mountainside towns that nickname this area “Switzerland of Central America.” Once in Turrialba, you and your loved one will stay in a gorgeous B&B on the east side of town (perfect for watching the sunset over the Turrialba Volcano in the west).
Day #2: Overnight white-water rafting trip
Today’s adventure takes you and your spouse down the exhilarating rapids of the Pacuare River. Guided by world-class rafting guides—many of whom compete internationally–you’ll safely navigate the river’s rapids to reach a secluded jungle lodge. The lodge, while remote, offers modern comforts. You’ll enjoy stunning views under the stars, and the food is sure to impress. After settling in, you can relax in a hammock or continue the adventure with guided trips to hidden waterfalls or zip-lining through the rainforest.

Considered one of the top five adventure rivers in the world, the Pacuare River certainly lives up to its reputation. This biological and indigenous reserve is home to waterfalls that tumble into the river, exotic wildlife, and a beautiful canyon known as Dos Montañas (Two Mountains). Prepare for adventure as you’ll encounter class III & IV rapids that attract adventurers from all over the world. After the river trip, the driver will pick you up with your luggage and transport you to your hotel near the airport. You and your partner will stay in the coffee-growing region of the Central Highlands on the flanks of Volcan Poas in a lovely boutique B&B.

After enjoying breakfast-with-a-view, you will return to the airport for an in-country flight to the remote Osa Peninsula. National Geographic labeled this part of the country as “…one of the most biologically intense places on earth.” You will land on a tiny airstrip on the beach and promptly board a 4×4 that will take you across a river over the hills to your cliff-side eco-lodge. After lunch, you and your companion can take the rest of the afternoon to relax and explore the beach and jungle. All meals are included in your stay at Drake Bay.
Day #5: Corcovado Guided Hike
Visit one of the most pristine national parks in all of Central America. After breakfast, board a boat for a quick 25-minute ride south into Corcovado National Park, where an expert local guide will join you for a hike through the enchanting jungle. As the largest of Costa Rica’s protected areas, Parque Nacional Corcovado comprises 103,290 acres of tropical rainforest, encompassing about a third of the Osa Peninsula, and houses an unbelievable amount of the country’s biodiversity. Its population of flora and fauna includes 10% of mammals found in the Americas. Spot Scarlet Macaws, anteaters, tapirs, three species of monkeys, and much more as you trek through the jungle.
Day #6: Isla del Caño Snorkel Tour
After breakfast, board a boat bound for Isla del Caño, a remote island 14 miles off the coast of Drake Bay. This 500-acre biological reserve is surrounded by protected waters teeming with tropical marine life. The island is rich with pre-Columbian artifacts, offering a glimpse into Costa Rica’s ancient past. Snorkeling here is unforgettable, with larger schools of fish and exotic marine life. It’s not uncommon to spot whales, turtles, and even sharks. After your half-day adventure, you’ll return to the lodge to relax, take in the sunset, and share stories of your day.
Day #7: Free Day in Drake Bay
No trip to Drake Bay is complete without a day exploring the hidden beaches and jungle trails. Now that you have your bearings, you’ll feel very comfortable getting out on your own to look for wildlife and play in the ocean. If you’re up for another organized activity, we can set up horseback riding, zip-lining, or another trip to Corcovado National Park.

After breakfast, say adios to the Osa Peninsula. Your flight back to the Central Valley will leave in the afternoon, so take the morning to enjoy one last hike or a final dip in the ocean. You’ll fly over the country of Costa Rica back to the Central Valley, where you two will stay for the night in one of our favorite boutique hotels.
Day #9: Transfer to Airport for Flight Home
On your last day of the Romantic Couple’s Honeymoon Adventure, savor a tropical breakfast with fresh-roasted Costa Rican coffee before your journey home.
