Romantic Couple’s Vacation for Anniversaries & Honeymoons
The Secluded Caribbean Costa Rica Couple’s Vacation Itinerary is a couple’s Costa Rica adventure trip that explores a few off-the-beaten-path & unique destinations in Costa Rica. Honeymooners, those celebrating an anniversary and other travelers that choose this trip will have the opportunity to descend through the mountainous rainforests on an unforgettable white-water adventure en route to the gorgeous and laid-back beaches of the Caribbean Coast.

Your Costa Rica romantic adventure begins in the shade of the most active volcano in the country, Volcan Turrialba. Here you will experience the sugarcane plantations, the shade-grown coffee fields, the world-class white water rapids, and the exciting canyoning and zip-line activities. After spending a few days in this quaint little town, known for its rich Costa Rican culture, you and your partner will journey to the Caribbean Sea community just south of Puerto Limon. This area of the country offers secluded and soft sand beaches with crystal clear waters and a very laid-back lifestyle.
By day, your itinerary will take you through national parks that are teeming with wildlife, and by night, you will be serenaded by calypso-style steel drums and reggae music. The endless private and remote beaches – perfect for slow meandering while stopping every now and then to watch surfers or to explore tide pools with snorkel and mask – are what make this a great couple’s exclusive & romantic itinerary.

Typical 9-day Secluded Costa Rica Couple’s Vacation Itinerary
Day #1: Arrival – Transfer to Turrialba
As soon as you arrive to Costa Rica’s San Jose Airport (SJO), an air-conditioned and modern private vehicle will be outside of the airport waiting to greet you. Your driver will welcome you with a sign that has your name on it and then take you on the scenic two-hour transfer to your hotel in Turrialba. En route to Turrialba you can stop off along the way for lunch at one of the traditional restaurants with amazing views of the valley. You will pass through the agricultural, sugarcane and coffee-growing region of the Talamanca Mountains. That night, you can settle into your boutique B&B to rest and relax before dinner.

Day #2: Canyoning & Zip-line Tour – Free Time to Explore Turrialba
The Secluded Caribbean itinerary includes breakfast each morning at your hotel. Take in the peaceful views of the valley as you eat fresh fruit and gallo pinto, a local Costa Rican breakfast dish. This morning you will embark on your first of many adventures. Canyoning is a fun sport that uses ropes to descend and rappel a series of canyon waterfalls. Today you will rappel and swing like a monkey as you zip from tree-top to tree-top on this combo tour. The tour ends with a delicious lunch in the middle of the jungle. The afternoon is free to explore the town of Turrialba or return to your hotel to relax and prepare for your rafting adventure!
Day #3: Pacuare River Rafting – Day 1
On today’s adventure you will experience the upper section of an unspoiled and beautiful river canyon in the Pacuare River. Your fully-trained and professional river guides will lead you safely down the river to arrive at the river’s Jungle Lodge just in time for lunch. The riverside jungle lodge is like nothing you have seen before. It is in a very romantic and private setting. The lodge comes complete with running water, flushing toilets, private showers, hammocks and a million star views. All of the rooms are modern, very clean and are fully equipped. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The food that your guides cook is almost as good as the rafting! Once you are at the lodge your guides will host you on hikes to hidden waterfalls. You’ll also get the chance to suit up and do a zip-line canopy tour in the rainforest!

Day #4: White-water Rafting – Day #2
Considered as one of the top 5 most-scenic rivers in the world, the Pacuare River will live up to its reputation today. The Indigenous Biological Reserve where it is located is home to some of the most scenic river scenes you will ever see. Day #2 of the whitewater rafting is where you will encounter the more intense and thrilling class III & IV rapids. Along the way through this reserve, waterfalls drop into the river from high above. You will also enter a beautiful canyon called “Dos Montañas” or “Two Mountains” before you end up at the take-out location to meet your transfer. The rafting today takes about 4-5 hours and has a few side hikes and excursions along the way. A vehicle with your baggage will be waiting for you after the river trip. You will have changing rooms and a place to rinse off before your journey to the southern Caribbean Coast.
Day #5: Day at Leisure
With some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, it is a wonder that the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is such a well-kept secret. After paddling extreme white water, the laid-back lifestyle, incredible international cuisine and reggae music is just what the doctor ordered! Today there is nothing formally planned. On the southern Caribbean beaches you can learn to surf, take a boat to snorkel on the reef or even visit an organic farm located in a Coastal Marine and Rainforest Preserve. A favorite activity is to rent a cruiser bicycle and explore the secluded beaches in the area.

Day #7: Day at Leisure or Optional Activity
Take this day to do another one of Costa Rica Escapes’ optional activities, or… nothing at all! We understand that when traveling with your loved one, it is best to have a down day or two to relax and enjoy each other. Aside from the obvious activities of hiking on the beach or relaxing at the pool, you can take surfing lessons or rent a beach cruiser to tour the private and remote beaches in the area – we’ll fill you in on the details of this when the time is right. This evening should be spent out having a nice dinner at one of the many fusion restaurants in the area that we will recommend!

Day #8: Morning at the Beach – Transfer to Central Valley
Take this morning to let it all soak in. You will have the majority of today to enjoy some final time on the beach. After lunch you will meet your driver who will escort you back to the Central Valley in a private and spacious vehicle. Enjoy the view outside the window of this small and exotic country or strike up a conversation with the driver to practice your Spanish. You will spend this final evening in a romantic hotel on the highlands of the Poas Volcano where you will have a one-of-a-kind view of the sparkling lights of the city below.
Day #9: Transfer to Airport for Flight Home
