This Race-Vacation’s itinerary is built around a flat, fun & fast Half-Ironman road triathlon in Puerto Viejo, Limon, Costa Rica. This is the perfect way to end your season and celebrate all of your hard work. This is also a great introduction race for athletes that are hesitant to compete at the Half-Iron distance. The course is ideal for beginners as well as experts looking for PRs. This race suits any athlete looking to accomplish one more thing before the end of the year. Participants are encouraged to race; however, by no means at they required to do so. Feel free to come along as your athlete’s support crew and sit on the beach sipping an Imperial, while you cheer the athletes along!

TicoMan Half-Ironman Race Details & Information
Timing couldn’t be more perfect for this race! While most of the country of Costa Rica is in the middle of the “green” season, the Caribbean Coast typically experiences wonderfully calm and sunny weather at this time of year, creating excellent conditions for a race. The racecourse is flat & fast! The bike and run are on 100% paved roads paralleling Caribbean Coast through the jungle. The pavement is in great condition and the race has never been very crowded in the past. The open-water swim takes place in a protected cove just off of Playa Negra on the north side of Puerto Viejo in Limon. This protected cove will host the loop course, while both transitions will be within the town of Puerto Viejo.
The race is hosted by MultiReto Adventures a Costa Rican based race organization. The exponential growth that the country of Costa Rica has seen in exercise-lifestyle and active-endurance events has not gone unnoticed. Franklin Chavarria and his team have taken action and hosted many different types of race events in Costa Rica; from Mountain Biking to Marathons and Triathlons to Adventure Races, this organization is a well-oiled machine. They are accomplished athletes themselves that are working to partner with organizations like Costa Rica Escapes to show foreign athletes that Costa Rica is a premier race destination for these types of competitions.
Much More Than Just a Triathlon…
While the race is the focal point of the trip, this will happen on the 3rd day of the itinerary. Once the race has taken place, athletes traveling with CRE will experience world-class adventure as they travel on a pre-arranged itinerary with fellow athletes to enjoy the Caribbean Coast & Talamanca Mountains! The race will take place on Sunday, October 20th. The full-service, pre-arranged itinerary begins on Friday, October 18th. Participants traveling with CRE are requested to arrive at SJO airport. Once people arrive, everyone will be fully taken care of throughout their travels. Everyone will be picked up and transferred east to the mountain town of Turrialba where everyone will stay this night and begin to prepare their gear for the race. A morning road ride to work out the kinks will be hosted for all participants on Saturday October 19th before the group transfers east to the coast. For the next 4 nights the group will remain in Puerto Viejo. The race takes place on October 20th and once the race is over the group will shift into vacation mode! For the next 6 days the group will enjoy the waves & water off of the Caribbean Coast before moving inland to run the world-famous white-water Pacuare River on an overnight rafting trip. The group of athlete-travelers will stay in a state of the art eco-lodge resort in the middle of the rainforest jungle before returning to the mountain town of Turrialba to take a Canopy adventure that will have them zip-lining through the tree-tops and rappelling down waterfalls in the rainforest.
Space is very limited for this year’s inaugural triathlon trip.
In order to ensure a high-quality race and travel experience, CRE is going to maintain a small number of athletes. Couples, individuals & families are all welcome to join and you do not have to participate in the race to be part of the experience. The price is $4,900 / couple or $3,100 / individual for single occupancy. Family pricing is available upon request. All private transportation, accommodations, activities, race fees, after-race celebration breakfasts & various lunches & dinners are covered in the cost of this itinerary. You will have gear storage and professional support & guides throughout your trip. Costa Rica Escapes can also purchase airfare on your behalf.
